1. What is the Green Capital Alliance?![]()
Green Capital Alliance (GCA) is a partnership of organizations working to support the Sacramento region’s clean tech economy. GCA’s areas of focus specifically include fostering collaboration between clean tech research, academia, job training and growth, business development and entrepreneurship.
2. Who makes up the GCA?![]()
We are supported by a steering committee of business, academic, workforce, economic development, sustainability, and clean tech organizations. Together, these organizations cross-pollinate ideas, coordinate projects, and align efforts to support and grow the region’s clean tech sector. The GCA is managed and staffed by Valley Vision.
3. Where does the GCA operate?![]()
We focus on the six-county Sacramento region as defined by the Sacramento Area Council of Governments, which include El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, Sutter, Yolo, Yuba Counties. Many of our partners operate in a regional scope, and participation is open to the region.
4. Why does GCA focus on clean technology?![]()
In 2005, a collaborative project known as Partnership for Prosperity formed to create a regional strategy to diversify the Sacramento region’s economic base. The clean energy technology sector emerged as the region’s most promising industry area due its existing company base, proven academic and research excellence in the field, innovative programs within the local utility companies, and the strength of existing partnerships. Since then, regional leaders and organizations have sustained broad support focusing on the growing clean tech sector.
5. How does GCA define the clean tech economy?![]()
We recognize the importance of supporting all areas of the Sacramento region’s green economy. However, we maintain a focus on the “clean tech economy,” which we’ve defined as establishments with primary activity that provide products or related services focused on producing clean energy, conserving the use of energy, creating more efficient vehicles, and/or green building. These industry segments, frequently referred to as the “clean energy technology cluster,” were identified because they represent region’s existing strengths and unique assets.
6. How is the GCA funded?![]()
Our funding is sourced through sponsorship by regional organizations and by fee-for-service project work. Project management for the GCA is housed at the regional nonprofit Valley Vision. Learn more about sponsorship opportunities by contacting Julia Burrows.
7. Why is the work of the GCA important?![]()
Working closely with the Sacramento region’s leaders and community members, we strive to foster connections and collaboration that will bring long-lasting jobs and business to the region. We also aim to have the region emerge as a leader in clean tech and sustainability.
