Our innovative utility companies and cutting edge research centers are true leaders in the effort, fostering job growth and gaining national recognition.

Leading Utilities
The Sacramento Region’s cutting edge utility companies– Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), and Roseville Electric– help lead the way with their focus on renewable energy.
- SMUD utilizes over 24% renewable energy to meet its customers’ power needs, and plan to achieve 37% renewable energy use by 2020.
- PG&E has installed over 1 million Smart Meters in the Sacramento Region, and six million within their service area.
- Roseville Electric will provide 231,000 MWh of wind energy through 2012.
All three utilities have been nationally recognized for their renewable energy programs, and are ranked in the top 10 for their solar electric capacity.

National Recognition
- According to a 2011 study by the Brookings Institution, the Sacramento Region has the 3rd highest concentration of green jobs in the nation – 4.5% of all jobs are part of the clean economy.
- Neilsen Wire recently ranked Sacramento 8th in the U.S. for markets most likely to participate in green energy programs.
- According to NREL, the Sacramento Region has installed the most solar per capita in California, and likely the U.S.
- Sacramento is ranked 8th nationally for its number of ENERGY STAR labelled buildings.
- GE ranks Sacramento among the top 10 Best Cities for Electric Vehicle integration.
